Ann Arbor, 1965

I’ve had some discussion with people about the SEC and I need help from out there from people who may know.

Here’s the question: When was the last time Georgia played a team in the regular season in a venue outside the geographical South? This question goes to the heart of what I was saying about SEC teams’ unwillingness to leave the snug confines of their home region.

My 1999 Phil Steele only goes back to 1994 and I don’t have a Georgia media guide. Suffice it to say that the answer is at least not since 1994.

UPDATE: We have an answer.

Thanks to Chase from New York City on this one. He has looked at the Georgia results lists and located the last time the Dawgs played a game outside the South.

There are two possible answers:

1966 vs. Virginia Military Institute in Roanoke, VA. If you consider that outside the South, that’s your answer.

If you don’t consider that outside the South, the answer is:

1965 vs. Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Simply incredible.
