The latest Scripps Howard News Service Heisman Poll is up and it’s nearly identical to what it was last week.
The SHNS is a group of 10 voters from around the country. It has accurately predicted the winner 15 of the last 17 years.
Here’s what it looks like this week:
Jason White, OU, 44 (6)
Matt Leinart, USC, 37 (3)
Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma, 23 (1)
Alex Smith, Utah, 16
J.J. Arrington, California, 8
Others receiving votes: Cedric Benson, RB, Texas, 7 points; Aaron Rodgers, QB, California, 6; Reggie Bush, RB/PR, USC, 4; Jason Campbell, QB, Auburn, 4; Carnell Williams, RB, Auburn, 1.
Some interesting things here:
–Peterson’s strength seems to come at the expense of Alex Smith, not Jason White. Per my theory, it doesn’t look like Peterson will be the one to cost White the Heisman, should White not win it.
–J.J. Arrington has surpassed his teammate, Aaron Rodgers, for the first time.
–Reggie Bush is fading fast and neither Arrington nor Rodgers are doing much to mount a challenge out West, which means that Leinart will likely consolidate his strength in that region.
