Meanwhile, In Gainesville….

If USC doesn’t get the top class, then by all accounts it will be the Florida Gators who walk away with that honor.

Urban Meyer has now shown that he can not only coach, but can also recruit at the highest levels.

What’s interesting about the the class he has assembled is how the players in it seem to fit perfectly into his system.

Quarterback Tim Tebow is like a left-handed Alex Smith, with an even bigger frame to take the pounding in the spread option offense.

Wide receiver Percy Harvin is the No. 1 player in the country and besides being a threat downfield, he will be a nightmare taking reverses and shovel passes out of the backfield.

And if the Gators get running back C.J. Spiller, they’ll get the best speed back in the nation, someone perfect to run in the space created by the spread.

With this class, the Gators move into the top three or four in the country as far as overall talent. There’s USC, Texas and maybe LSU ahead of them, but that’s it.

If some of these guys can contribute right away–if Harvin is a huge hit, for instance–it could be the difference between going 9-3 last year and ending up 11-1 or 12-0 next season.
