Quick Hits

–The HP Fantasy Challenge is up to 25 participants, still leaving VERY good odds for anyone who wants to grab those two Rose Bowl tickets. So join now by clicking the banner up top! The game should be loads of fun.

If you don’t get in this week, you can always do it next week, but the deadline is Sept. 8 and you will have a one-game handicap.

–To help with the HP Fantasy I’ll put out a weekend guide starting next week to give a run down on who is playing who and what to look for.

–HP just passed the 1,000,000-visitor plateau in the last couple days. Actually, it’s more than that since the site began, but I didn’t start the site meter up until early this year. So, break out the champagne….

–HP was the subject of a CSTV round table yesterday with Trev Alberts.

–I noticed that CFR was getting guff for putting USC’s Brian Cushing over Penn State’s Paul Pozluszny on his All-American team.

The only question I have for those who laugh at and cry foul at that is this:

Who out there had Pozluszny as an All-American going into last season?

He was No. 12 on Phil Steele’s preseason list of oustide backers behind guys like Chad Greenway, DeMeco Ryans and Ernie Sims–all guys who he ended up supplanting on most post-season All-American squads.

Point being, if CFR thinks that Brian Cushing is going to end up being an All-American over Pozluszny (who, remember, is coming off a knee injury), then the only people who can rightfully complain are those who were smart enough to pick the Nittany Lion as a preseason pick last year.

Because, as it turns out, they knew their football.

It’s a new year and the idea is to project what will happen in this season. The year before isn’t always a reliable guide. College football isn’t static. It is fluid and new stars emerge all the time. If that wasn’t the case, then Paul Pozluszny would have never won the Butkus last year.

So let the season play out and we’ll see where the chips end up falling.

–Off to watch the games…have a great time everyone.
