I’ve been on the Vince Young bandwagon for quite a while. Since the time I first saw him as a redshirt freshman against Oklahoma, I knew he was a special talent. What’s more, I saw him as the type of player who would revolutionize his position. Simply put, he’s the first to utilize such an [...]

When Did Jimbo Become A Genius?

As noted by Sunday Morning Quarterback, the consensus out there is that former LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher is about to save Florida State’s bacon. Chalk me up as a skeptic on this subject. Fisher was the offensive coordinator at LSU from 2000-2006. During that span, the Tigers managed to surpass the 30 points per [...]

The off-season Heisman countdown continues, with Brian Brohm checking in at No. 10. Check out CSTV.com for my feature on Brohm and his Heisman chances. If the senior quarterback makes a run at the Heisman, he’s expected to be one of the top picks in the next draft. Maybe even the first selection. He’s currently [...]

He is a true breakaway back who thrives in [...]

One of the longest of longshots for the Heisman is Oklahoma State wide receiver Adarius Bowman. Nonetheless, OSU has put out a website for Bowman to tout his candidacies for the Heisman, Maxwell, Camp and Biletnikoff Awards. I think this site will end up being very effective in Bowman’s race to win the Biletnikoff.

In early-2005, I started writing about the exciting offensive trends that were quickly making headway around the country. More specifically, I believed that those trends were best manifested by the offensive schemes of five teams, a group which I referred to as the Gang of Five. In general, though, the subject of offensive innovation in [...]

A Little Bit Nutty….

Ever notice that whenever a friend of tells you an outlandish tale, it somehow sounds more plausible if he says at the end of it: “Dude, true story!”? It doesn’t make it true. But somehow, by saying “true story!”, we are supposed to be convinced. So it is with Clarence Reece, a former football player [...]

The Rise Of The SEC

Scheduling issues aside, the SEC is rapidly improving as a conference and, as I predicted a couple years ago, it is on the verge of actually living up to its year-in, year-out hype as the best conference. Why is this? Well, the league has finally got some coaches. No one wanted to believe that Urban [...]
