Is there any doubt that this season’s West Virginia offense will be the country’s most exciting to watch?
First, there is one of the leading Heisman candidates in Steve Slaton, who rushed for 1,744 yards and 16 TDs last year while averaging 7 yards per carry. He is a true breakaway back who thrives in coach Rich Rodriguez’ spread attack.
Then, there is quarterback Pat White, who ran for 1,219 yards and 18 TDs (averaging 7.4 ypc) and passed for another 1,655 yards and 13 TDs, while completing 66 per cent. He’s probably not as fast as Slaton, but he’s a more natural runner and one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in college football.
Let’s not forget speedy wide out Darius Reynaud and herculean fullback Owen Schmitt, both legitimate weapons.
Finally, when Slaton is sitting, we’ll get to see freshman phenom Noel Devine, one of the most gifted runners to ever come out of high school. If a healthy Devine averages less than 8 yards per carry, I will be shocked.
Serious folks, it’ll be The Greatest Show On Earth.
I can’t wait.
You’ll see a lot of this in 2007
