I’ve been on the Vince Young bandwagon for quite a while. Since the time I first saw him as a redshirt freshman against Oklahoma, I knew he was a special talent.
What’s more, I saw him as the type of player who would revolutionize his position. Simply put, he’s the first to utilize such an extraordinary skill set at quarterback (I know, Michael Vick is also really fast, but remember he’s 6-0 even, not 6-5). It’s little wonder to me that he was the NFL Rookie of the Year.
What makes him truly revolutionary is the impact he will have on the future of the position. Fifteen years ago, a player with his skill set would be steered to the defensive end slot or maybe to tight end. After all, where else would you put a 6-5, 230-pound physical freak? A few years ago, he might have been made into a receiver.
But now, the success of Young has encouraged coaches at the high school level and below to throw away the stereotypes of what a quarterback should be. These types of players are now being groomed into amazing quarterbacks.
And so we see the No. 1 prospect in next year’s recruiting class is Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Penn. If you can watch this video and not think he’s the next Vince Young, then God bless you. Call me crazy, but he may be better than Young when all is said and done.
Terrelle Pryor–remember the name. Whatever school gets him should expect a national title no later than his third season.
