It’s become a chic thing among Heisman commentators to talk about how one teammate can take away another teammate’s Heisman votes.
And so, much of the conversation regarding the West Virginia candidates Steve Slaton and Pat White revolves around how each may hurt the other when the votes are all tallied.
While there is some validity to that notion, there are other hidden factors that could hurt a candidacy, too.
When it comes to Slaton, that factor is named Noel Devine.
For those who haven’t seen him, check out the Youtube clip below.
The prospect of Devine running in the West Virginia spread scheme is frightening. He gets to the end zone so fast, it’s like he is playing on a 50-yard field. I can foresee him having games where he pops 90 yards on 5 carries, or 140 on 11 carries.
Those are yards that might otherwise go to Slaton. And every yard will be key when it comes to Slaton’s Heisman hopes. What’s more, Devine is such a dazzling runner, he may start to hog some of the highlight reels as well. It will soon become apparent that The Greatest Show on Earth isn’t just a one-man-band in the backfield.
Devine could be the biggest threat to Steve Slaton’s Heisman hopes
