Picking Thursday’s Key Games

It’s always difficult picking the games against the spread. Last year, I had a pretty good regular season, picking at around a 54 per cent clip (if I recall correctly). The bowl season was a bit of a problem, though.

There are few games on tap for tonight, so here are my first picks of the 2007 season. All lines courtesy of NSA:

LSU (-21) at Mississippi State–I do respect the Bulldog defense enough to think that this game won’t be too big of a blowout, but Sylvester Croom’s befuddled sideline demeanor might be too much for MSU to overcome. The Tigers have a nifty new offensive scheme and all kinds of toys to play with. I can see this one being close for three quarters before LSU blows it open and covers the spread. LSU 31, Mississippi State 9.

Oregon State (-6) vs. Utah–The Beavers aren’t getting much respect in the preseason after winning 10 games last year. This is a veteran OSU team that should handle its business. Getting Sammie Stroughter back could help, too.

Oregon State 28, Utah 17
