9 a.m.

I’m over at CFB Pundit’s house with his 5-TV set up. Ryan, Brad, Janna and Bruce are in the house, too.

Up on the screens are Colorado-Texas Tech, Ball State-Illinois, West Virginia-Rutgers, Kentucky-Mississippi State and Indiana-Wisconsin.

Great run by Steve Slaton to put WVU up. He out-ran the rain on that one.

Wisconsin is making quick work of Indiana, who has a lot of work to do if it’s going to accomplish that cover.

You know, if only Rutgers Stadium had real grass, we’d have a classic mudfest going. I miss those.

Rashard Mendenhall just scored for Illinois. I keep wanting to call him ‘Bronco’, because it would be so perfect, wouldn’t it? Maybe he and the BYU coach can switch names, although I can’t imagine a white guy named Rashard coaching in Provo.

It’s a shame that Noel Devine isn’t playing. ‘Personal Issues’ is the reason. Maybe he has a parent-teacher conference to go to or something.

10 a.m.

Wisconsin just picked up a fumble by Kellen Lewis. Ah, he was down. Anyway, CFB Pundit was excited because he has the over in that game. He picked it on the assumption that Lewis will make plays that will lead to scores for either team.

Mississippi State is up 14-7 on Kentucky. Maybe the Bulldogs have turned the corner finally.

Mendenhall already has over 100 yards in the first half. Big Ten’s best back.

Horrible call in the MSU-UK game. Woodson hit before he goes out of bounds and they call a personal foul. Nonsense.

10:50 a.m.

Ball State is ballin’. Could be a hangover for Illinois.

But bam! Back comes Illinois and Juice scores. Zook has his dander up now.

And so does Mendenhall! Touchdown.

11:21 a.m.

It looks to me like the West Virginia version of the spread is getting figured out quicker than the more pass-centered versions. I write this as Pat White breaks another big run.

Seriously, though, I wonder if the style that Oregon coordinator Chip Kelly brings is the next wave. Food for thought.

Mississippi State is up 17-7. I know the Bulldogs beat Auburn earlier this season, but this could be the biggest game of the Croom era. Pulling off an upset is one thing, doing it again is another. The Bulldogs might actually believe in themselves and find themselves in a bowl.

11:49 a.m.

The first round of games are winding down. West Virginia has this one in hand against Rutgers, 24-3. Wisconsin is also up 24-3. Mississippi State is up 24-14. Illinois is up 28-17 on Ball State and Colorado is up on Texas Tech, 31-19.

noon

This next round should be great. USC-Oregon, Florida-Georgia, Arizona-Washington and Michigan-Minnesota.

Couldn’t ask for a better start for USC. Oregon fumbles and USC’s got it deep in Oregon territory. Interesting to see erstwhile starter J.D. Booty whooping it up on the sideline after that play.

I would kick this if I were SC. Reverse to McKnight. Stuffed.

Kentucky just coughs up the ball completely unprovoked. I don’t think it’s going to work out for them today. Still, you have to say that this season is a big step forward for Rich Brooks. But how will the Cats be next year without Woodson?

Right now, Kentucky is looking like, well, the Kentucky of old. When is basketball season?

USC not looking great. Neither is Oregon.

Andre Woodson, you have been given the thumb when it comes to the Heisman. See you in the NFL.

12:30

Dixon is picking up a good amount of yards for UO. He’s flimsy, but he’s smart with how he uses his body.

Arizona just dropped a sure bomb. The passing regime hasn’t quite taken hold yet in Tucson, methinks.

But then they hit a bomb. Nice.

Everson Griffen is really fast for USC. But not as fast as Dixon just yet. What a fascinating display of speed.

Oregon’s scheme is fooling USC fight now. Rey Maualuga chasing ghosts and Dixon waltzes into the end zone.

Tech is creeping back into it with Colorado. Do you do the onside kick now? I think so.

Locker just scores on a big run for Washington. He will single-handedly save that program. He’s no Tebow, but he’s damn good.

Terrance Wheatley has three picks for Colorado. I nominate him for Defensive Player of the Week.

Big plays everywhere! McKnight takes it to the house, but it’s called back due to holding. Arizona brings back the kick to midfield. Woodson throws his third pick. Tebow throws a great pass. The whole world is on fire.

Another special teams bungle by Oregon. I thought this would be a sloppy game.

USC is dedicated to the run. I think the Trojans think if they keep pounding, the big plays will come.

Georgia looks good today. This could be a barnburner with Florida.

There goes Locker! He’s having a ridiculous day so far: 8 of 10 for 184 yards!

Wow. That’s something I’ve never seen. Georgia scores and the ENTIRE UGA team goes out on the field to celebrate. Flags ensue. How Bush League! says Tyler, my compadre.

Big catch by Oregon tight end Dickson. That cat can play.

Can’t believe Oregon went for it on that play. Shoulda kicked the field goal. Points aren’t easy to come by against USC. Take em when you can.

Georgia is on mark. Stafford to Massaquoi. Maybe Cody is right–maybe Stafford will finish ahead of Tebow in next year’s Heisman. But, I doubt it.

1:54 p.m.

Great catch for Texas, a Lynn Swann-like catch.

USC is abysmal offensively. Yeah, things are so much better without Norm Chow.

I can’t believe Brock Huard is on commentary for Fox. He looks like Max Headroom, says Ryan. He looks like Max Headroom’s wife, says Kevin.

USC scores on an incredible catch by Patrick Turner. USC has been relegated to making incredible plays to keep up with things.

Great run by Knowshon Moreno. He’s just a great player. I think by next season, we’ll be talking about him on a weekly basis.

How insane is the Oregon scheme? The second option goes to a 340-pound tackle for 4 yards. Crazy.

Texas and Nebraska are deadlocked at 3. This strikes me as as a do or die game for the Cornhuskers. Lose this one and the season is just dead.

Washington and Arizona is a barnburner. There’s been a bunch of big plays, including a 98-yard pass by Locker.

Georgia is feeling it against Florida. Tebow will have to pull the Gators out of the fire if the are to win.

Dixon is a sprite, floating around and not getting sacked. He is the Oregon offense at this point and if the Ducks get it done, he may be in the Heisman race.

Fumble by Havili. The mantra of excuses for USC is injuries and turnovers. And so it goes.

Nebraska is up 10-3. Could this be stand and deliver for the Cornhuskers?

USC needs to let loose the dogs of war. They continue to dink and dunk. It’s time to go downfield.

You just knew Sanchez was going to go long on second and short. So did Oregon and it’s a pick. Where is J.D. Booty?

2:34 p.m.

Oregon is dominating this game against USC. What’s the excuse Trojans? Everyone is pretty much healthy. Turnovers are to a minimum. So who’s to blame?

This Arizona-Washington game is fun to watch. Neither team can stop the other and both are scratching and crawling for this win. Much more entertaining than the USC-Oregon game.

Knowshon Moreno is special. Bruce says he has a better chance at the Heisman than Stafford does. I agree. Sorry Cody.

SC is down by 14 with 11 minutes to go. No sense of urgency. How far have they fallen?

Trojans throw to walk on Brad Walker on 3rd down and long. Really?

USC has packed this one in. So much for turning the corner.

Florida has begun its comeback. Close to the end zone and now Tebow has bowled in. What a game.

USC isn’t dead yet. Great throw by Sanchez to Ausberry for a TD. It’s up to the USC defense now.

Begs the question: Why hasn’t USC been throwing more all this time, and down the field at that?

3 p.m.

Connecticut is taking care of USF. Back to reality for the Bulls.

Washington is pulling away from Arizona. Locker has everything under control, it seems.

Oregon is counter-intuitive now. A no huddle offense at this point makes no sense. A dropped pass is worse. USC will get one more shot.

USC is hanging by a thread.

Now, Arizona and Washington are tied at 41. Oh, the humanity!

Sanchez throw the pick. Goodnight now, USC.

I think at this point, you have to like Oregon to run the table and maybe have a shot at the national title game.

3:15 p.m.

This UA-Washington game game is a crazy contest. 41 all with 5 minutes to play.

Auburn and Ole Miss are going at it. So far so good for the Rebs.

This Florida-UGA game is headed for a classic finish. There goes Harvin!

Per usual, I am too liquored up to finish the last few games today. See you Monday.
