The following is a power ranking that lists how well teams are playing right now. Theoretically, each ranked team should be able to beat each of the teams listed below it right now. This is not a prediction on how the records will shake out.
1. Oregon (8-1)–The Ducks controlled the game with USC from start to finish. Now, they may control their own destiny, too.
2. LSU (7-1)–Idle.
3. Ohio State (9-0)–It may be a while before we know how good the Buckeyes truly are. In the meantime, they keep winning.
4. Arizona State (8-0)–Can we now agree that Dennis Erickson is maybe the greatest program reviver of all time?
5. Oklahoma (7-1)–Idle
6. West Virginia (7-1)–Handled Rutgers with ease and appears to be back on track after some mid-season struggles.
7. Kansas (8-0)–The Jayhawks gutted out a tough win over Texas A&M and now will get a chance for some payback against Nebraska.
8. Boston College (8-0)–BC struggled to beat Virginia Tech, but showed a lot of character in coming back.
9. Missouri (7-1)–A huge matchup with Kansas at season’s end is looming.
10. Georgia (6-2)–This team just won’t go away. Lots of great young skill players who should be very good in 2008.
On the cusp: Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Hawaii
