Michigan or Notre Dame?

The Wolverines are rebuilding and retooling under Rich Rodriguez.  In a couple years, they’ll be back challenging for national titles.

Meanwhile, the Irish are coming off their worst season in memory.  Nowhere to go but up, right?

So, the question I ask is this:  Which team will win more games next year, Michigan or Notre Dame?

I’m thinking Michigan.

I hate the domers and generally want scUM to do well except in the instance of their last game of the year.

    The factors involved:
    Notre Dame’s fairly easy schedule.

scUM’s probably slightly more difficult schedule

Rich Rod’s history of first years at all schools he’s been at.

    scUM’s QB? Horrible.

scUM’s Oline. It was horrible last year. The best returning lineman was a turnstile last season.

Notre Dame’s offense? If it’s any better the slightly underrated defense won’t be on the field as much this year.

Charlie’s not calling the plays: could this be a good thing?

Tenuta – proved he can coach a defense

scUM’s defense? while not bad last year, it will be on the field much more this year. Like all the time.

So having said all this I’m going with Notre Dame. It’s too bad because Ohio State could use a good scUM.

Notre Dame wins it. The Irish “D” is, from a talent and coaching perspective, much better than people give it credit for.

The correct answer to this question in any and all instances is, “Who cares?” I think it is a great question to start a conversation on, but I have a feeling that neither team itself will be relevant in the national (or conference) title races. The most these teams can hope for is an upset or two. That would be the extent of anyone outside of thier own fanbases caring for them.

    David,
Disagree, I thoroughly enjoyed Notre Dame’s awful season last year, Especially after Blue-greysky bloggers predicted seasons as high as 11 – 1. Sometimes its very entertaining to talk about which teams will suck more. And to add scUM and ND are 1 , 2 in all time winning percentage.

So college football is only relevant when a national title is at stake? Gimme a break.

    Wait……the Irish have a defense?

David, read the question. It doesn’t ask how relevant they will be to the national title picture, it asks who will win more games. I say ND! The offense has no choice but to improve, and the defense is very under rated. Everyone talk about the recruiting class, but the biggest pickup for ND was Jon Tenuta! I say 7-5, and with a little luck, 8-4.

Michigan’s offense will be better than people think, there is more talent on their roster than there ever was on a WVU roster. Just because Threet isn’t fast doesn’t mean he can’t throw it. Brown and Minor can both run like hell.

And Notre Dame just sucks, Charlie Weis is a terrible coach, he should just go back to coordinating for the Patriots. Clausen is as overrated as they come.

Your all’s spring game suggest the opposite about Threet. He’s gonna suck, and he’s especially gonna suck from his back.
