…because no one else really has been (until this), except for ol’ HP.
I had him No. 6 on my preseason watch, which listed the players with the best chance at actually winning.
He was No. 3 in my most recent Heisman Watch.
Just a quick look at his stats: 80 for 100, 1,018 yards, 14 TDs, 1 int, 209.7 rating, 278 rushing yards, 8.2 ypc, 4 TDs.
He’s on pace to have 3,054 passing yards, 42 touchdown passes, 3 interceptions, plus 834 rushing yards and another 12 touchdowns by the time the Heisman votes are due.
That would be a phenomenal season.
But, ultimately, his Heisman fate will be decided on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18 when Texas takes on Oklahoma and Missouri.

Now tell me who has Texas played so far? Nuff said!
… and thus the line about upcoming games vs Oklahoma and Missouri … chill out, AUman, long ways to go, but I agree McCoy has been fantastic thus far (and he was damned good last season as well)
after this weekend’s upsets Tebow, Sanchez and Moreno have all dropped way down … McCoy went up like a rocket, Bradford stays high on the list, both are chasing Chase Daniel (who gets a decent test against Nebraska in Lincoln in 6 days)
long season, lots of football to be played yet, so let’s enjoy the good stuff as it happens … I still think Daniel is by far the frontrunner, and being a Mizzou fan I hope he puts on a show each and every week and the Tigers go undefeated (being a Big 12 fan I hope Oklahoma does the same, and I’d love nothing more than to see those two teams meet as undefeated in the Big 12 Championship Game)
gotta love college football!
By the way, AUman, McCoy’s 3,888 yards, 54 total touchdowns, and 3 interceptions could be compared to Tim Tebow’s 4,181 yards, 55 total touchdowns, and 6 interceptions last season.
If he won the trophy today, his 209.7 passer rating would eclipse Tebow AND Danny Wuerffel for the highest passer rating ever by a quarterback.
And if he gets to play in the conference title game, he would be on pace for 4,212 total yards, 58 touchdowns, and still, only 3 interceptions, which would barely beat all of Tebow’s marks in these categories, if that were indeed possible. Remember, Tebow didn’t have this luxury before going to New York in December.
And Colt (McCoy) plays a tougher schedule than Colt (Brennan) did last year. Besides, didn’t they just play Arkansas yesterday? I thought you were supposed to back a fellow league school up, SEC fan.
And as much as I hate to tell you this, the best-looking team in the conference, well, isn’t exactly on the best of terms with you guys. C’Mon, the love has to stop *somewhere*, shouldn’t it?
But I should know better. A quarter century ago, Bo beat out a Big Ten quarterback with prolific stats. Might that be fueling some of the attrition?
You’re not the only one touting Colt for the Heisman.
College Football News (CFN), another great college football website, has Colt as their leader for the Heisman.

I’ve been touting Colt McCoy for a while now, mostly to lament that no one else had been touting him. I did point out that Heisman Pundit was the only site I’d seen writing about him. I think because of last year’s sophomore slump no one was paying attention. But the first few weeks should have clued people in that he was playing great football and should be looked at.
Well here’s the thing:
Oct 11: at Oklahoma (#1)
Oct 18: Missouri (#3)
Nov 1: at Texas Tech (#8)
(Coaches’ Poll, 9/28)
And let’s not forget @ Kansas (#16) and Oklahoma State (#22).
So yeah, Colt’s stats are on a Heisman pace against Florida Atlantic, UTEP, and Rice, but that probably will not be the case against the competition remaining on their schedule. Actually, I hope he does not get injured with his run game.
By the way HP, we may not be publishers, but many of us who are observers of the game have had Colt on their Heisman watch lists for some time.
Maybe now we have to add John Parker Wilson of Alabama and Penn State’s Derrick Williams to the watch list?
John Parker Wilson, HA! He will lose Alabama a game this year on his own.
Derrick Williams had one good game. He’s the third leading receiver on the team. Not a chance.
