From the Atlanta J-C:

Tennessee is sending a similar message to high school football recruits in metro Atlanta. The school has put up two billboards with Heisman Trophy candidate Eric Berry, a safety from Creekside High School, along with new coach Lane Kiffin.

In a similar vein, Auburn also has encroached on Georgia and Georgia Tech’s turf, renting out more than 20 billboards that promote the school and football team in metro Atlanta.

I’m all for this.  Schools need to get behind their guys.

And there’s nothing like a good old-fashioned billboard battle.

  1. Auburn and Tennessee have recruited heavily in Georgia forever. Most years Auburn’s roster is dominated by players from Georgia.

What’s changed is that these two schools are not as successful as in the past because Georgia and Tech have had their way within their home state for the last 5-6 years.

Rodney Garner left Tenn. and joined Georgia’s staff 8 years ago and Tennessee’s recruiting success in Georgia has fallen greatly despite a few notable players…..Eric Berry.

In the past Tennessee and Auburn was not so desperate as to have to resort to billboards.

Auburn being within spitting distance of the Georgia state line will continue to have several Georgia players on their roster.
