Heisman Preview

Here’s what  some of the main Heisman contenders have to look forward to this week:

Colt McCoy–His Longhorns take on Louisiana-Monroe.  This one should obviously be a laugher.  I doubt he plays past the third quarter, so don’t expect much in the way of passing numbers.

Tim Tebow–The Gators have an even bigger laugher against Charleston Southern.  Tim Tebow may not see the second half.  He’ll probably throw the ball less than 10 times.

Sam Bradford–He might have the toughest challenge of them all as the Sooners play BYU in Arlington.  If this game was in Provo, I might call for the upset, but it’ll be like a home game for OU.  I think Bradford will struggle at first, but will play the whole game and end up with a very good statistical night.

Jahvid Best–The Bears host a Maryland team that did a good job bottling him up last year.  However, much of that Terps defense is gone.  This game could be a challenge for the Bears and I’m sure they will need every possible yard that Best can produce.  This is a chance for him to make an early Heisman statement.

Terrelle Pryor–The Buckeyes host Navy and I imagine Pryor will go off in this one.  There’s no reason for him not to.

Daryll Clark–His Nittany Lions will host Akron and I expect him to play three quarters and hit the showers.

Jevan Snead–He’ll get to play at Memphis on a Sunday.  With only two games that day, this will be a great opportunity for Snead to get some national attention.  He’ll probably play the whole game, so he’s got a chance to put up some impressive stats.

Dez Bryant–He’s got the game of the week against Georgia.  Of course, one of his other two teammates could emerge here as well, but I think if he can pull off some special teams trickery and catch a couple touchdowns in a Cowboys win, he’ll be off to a good start.

Noel Devine–He’ll play against Liberty.  Should take him at least four or five carries to get to 100 yards, don’t you think?  I’ll be surprised if he gets 15 carries in this one before sitting.

Jimmy Clausen–An intriguing matchup with Nevada should garner some attention.  I’m not sure how the Wolfpack are going to stop the Notre Dame passing attack.  I expect Clausen to put up big numbers here.

Game to Watch:  Oregon at Boise State.  The Ducks have two players who are potential Heisman dark horses (Jeremiah Masoli, LeGarrette Blount) but they need to use this opportunity in front of a national Thursday night audience to make a splash.  I predict one of them will.
