I’ll have more here as Monday progresses…
When the weekend began, the race for the Heisman looked like this:
1. The presumptive favorite was winning games, but not looking particularly impressive in doing so.
2. The former winner was struggling in leading a sputtering offense and wasn’t putting up the fantastic all-around numbers everyone had grown accustomed to.
3. The prime challenger’s main knock was that he hadn’t beaten a good team.
While I thought this weekend would provide some clarity to the Heisman race, it turns out that nothing has really changed.
1. Colt McCoy was very unimpressive in the Texas win over Oklahoma.
2. Florida barely squeaked by Arkansas, as its Tim Tebow-led offense looked sloppy on its way to just 23 points.
3. Jimmy Clausen’s Notre Dame team lost to USC, the only team on its schedule likely to finish ranked at season’s end.
So we are back to square one. No one has taken control of the Heisman race and it may be that no one ever truly does so this season.
If I had to guess how the vote would go today, it’d look like this:
1. Tim Tebow
2. Jimmy Clausen
3. Colt McCoy
4. Case Keenum
5. Tony Pike
6. Mark Ingram
7. Eric Berry
8. Ndamukong Suh
9. Jahvid Best
10. CJ Spiller
More on the race later today with the HP Heisman Watch, plus my further observations from the weekend and the weekly HP Fantasy Challenge update.

I wish the media would dispense with the Tebow love fest. He is not even the most valuable player in his conference. Mark Ingram should own the #1 spot right now. His level of play against the defenses of the SEC is second to none.
Wrong.
Say that Ingram isn’t getting the love he deserves. Say that Alabama is better than UF right now. Say that UF is struggling and would lose to Alabama if they played tomorrow. All those statements are accurate. However, without Ingram, Alabama is still undefeated. Without Tebow, UF could have 2 losses. Based on the simple fact that UF’s offense is so reliant on Tebow makes him more indispensible than any other player in the nation. A.k.a. “most valuable”
