Tim Tebow had one of his worst days in a while, throwing not one, but two pick sixes.
Mark Ingram didn’t look like the world beater he has been lately and his fourth-quarter fumble almost cost ‘Bama an undefeated season.
Colt McCoy rebounded a bit, but threw a pick for the eighth-straight game.
Jacory Harris and Miami showed they aren’t quite ready for prime time.
Jimmy Clausen keeps performing well but his team lives on the edge every week and has yet to beat a ranked opponent.
This race is a shambles at this point.

A strange week again. If I had to vote today based on the season thus far:
1. Clausen
2. Tebow
3. Ingram
4. McCoy
5. Keenum
However, I think Tebow will get a lot of attention as he moves past Herschel Walker’s SEC rushing TD record. If Florida is undefeated and he plays well against Alabama then I believe Tebow will win. Otherwise I think Clausen is in the driver’s seat. Ingram will be steady, but teams will ensure he doesn’t break out again. McCoy not performing well in the big games and his streak of INT will keep him out.
Yah,HP,nice way to put it. This is an amazingly unsatisfying Heisman race…especially since we were all hoping for great things.
Just some food for thought: Jimmy Clausen has been down in the 4th quarter in 6 out of 7 games this year. In all 6 games but the USC game, Jimmy has driven his team to the lead, and in the USC game he nearly came back from 20 points down. I understand he hasn’t had his Heisman “moment” yet, but a night game at fairly high ranked Pittsburgh team looms on the horizon.
The lack of critical thinking among sportswriters, while not unexpected, is yet disappointing. This award is ostensibly for the best player in cfb. Very often, that player will pay on a top team, or beat ranked teams, etc. But these aspects are accidental to the stated purpose of the award. Clausen performs well. The rest of his team does not perform as well as he. What does that have to do with the Heisman Trophy? In fact, if sportswriters would work harder, they might find a number of deserving candidates despite their teams’ lesser performances. As it stands now, the Heisman Trophy discussion is laughable. The Heismandments don’t help, but rather lend legitimacy to a wholesale lack of critical thinking.
I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure Noel Devine in fact does want to win the heisman. Every week he leads WVU to victory in spite of a horrible head coach and a turnover prone QB. Let’s give him a little respect in such a down year.
Be fair to Tebow, both interceptions were on deflected balls. One was a deflection by his own receiver, the other by a defensive lineman. Tebow had plenty of offense as ESPN kept showing and his responsibility as compared to the rest of the team. Additionally, that was the first Florida team to win in Starkville since 1985. It is also just a bit difficult to not have things go wrong considering your position coach and offensive coordinator from the last two years was facing you down from the other sideline.
But yeah that is nothing considering his underwhelming performance against UT. BTW, how did they look yesterday???? I don’t think I have seen it enough on ESPN. Alabama squeaks by UT and that is a tough win. Florida is one fumble from complete domination of the UT game and they were disappointing. How well did Ingram run against that D again?
Everybody should really take a look at UF’s body of work and realize what is being accomplished. How many injuries have they fought through? How many teams have given them their absolute best shot that UF has fought off? Some people need to stop trying to find a reason to tear it down and start holding it up for examination. The only fault someone can really find in UF this year is the ineffective nature of their red zone offense. But when you have a defense like that, is a FG really not that good? Considering the offense for MSU scored all of 6 points on their own yesterday, I would call a FG half of what you need to win.
This has been one of the most disappointing Heisman races ever. Tebow will probably win by default. I saw an article about giving the Heisman to Mount Cody earlier today. It would be laughable if it were not so plausible at this point. It would never happen, but it is tough not look at one of the big uglies legitimately for the first time.
Jerry Hughes.
Christian Ponder keeps topping himself every weekend. He’s been as consistent as anyone. Tebow’s even being in the top 5 at this point is a joke. Him winning would truly be a travishamockery at this point.
It is a shame that the team has to do well. The award doesn’t go to the best player, but the QB or RB with the best combination of team and individual performance. The media is terrible…whenever Florida is in a close game they win because “Tebow wills them to win.” It’s all bs. He doesn’t play defense. He can’t will his defense to rush the passer, form tackle, deflect passes, etc.
I hate ND but if Clausen’s team had a better defense he probably would be the leading candidate right now.
If no player is worthy of the trophy this year, can it be awarded to a player who should have won it in years past, e.g., Vince Young, Keith Byars, etc.?
I think the reason Clausen isn’t running away with it like some people on here think he should be is do to quality of competetion- he’s tearing up mediocre teams- I mean I’m sorry but if Clausen get’s credit for doing it why aren’t Keenum and Moore frontrunners as well after all they’re putting up even better stats- but for some reason Houston and Boise doing it against crap is a justifiable discredit while Clausen doing the same is oblivious to some.
