Let me preface this by saying that I went to Texas. I’m a huge Longhorn fan. I bleed orange. I’ve hated you and your possible PAC10 bias since the 2005 race. I still love your website and your insights.

However, I do not understand your team rankings. I don’t think Texas did anything this week that warrants them moving from 3 to 1. The Big 12 sucks this year. Both Florida and Bama are playing against “better” opponents… on most weeks except for this past one.

Texas vs. Nebraska will be a good show. If Texas loses, do you think Suh will move into your top Heisman candidates?

If Texas wins, then they should probably be #1 regardless of the Bama/Florida game. They just look exceptional this year; defense is probably better than the 2005 national title season and defense was why we won that championship game.

    Keep it up!

My rankings are based in large part on how well a team is playing right NOW. I think that hanging 51 on Kansas is more impressive than what Alabama and Florida did over the weekend against embarrassing OOC opponents. Thus, I have for this week moved Texas up to the top spot as they are playing very well right now, even though I do agree that the Big 12 sucks.

Having a weak conference doesn’t make all teams within it weak too, it just makes it a little harder to judge. USC has dominated the past decade in a conference that is traditionally weak – but USC kicked ass around the nation versus opponents from every powerhouse conference (Big XII, Big X, and SEC).

To say that Texas doesn’t deserve the top spot over Alabama or Florida is as ridiculous as saying Alabama or Florida doesn’t deserve it. Fact of the matter, Texas is an undefeated powerhouse team with a Heisman worthy quarterback and the nations top defense – only a buffoon would find that unworthy of a top ranking.

HP – you gonna give the SEC any love for playing OOC games with two of your top 11 teams this week? I’ll bet you don’t have the integrity to mention those games this week and praise the SEC for scheduling them. Not to mention UF vs FSU OOC.

    That’s a great argument!

Hmmm… I don’t remember you moving teams past Texas a couple of weeks ago when they played National Powerhouse UCF – everyone has these teams on their schedule. TCU has played San Diego State, UNLV, and Wyoming the last few weeks (I can’t help they play in a horrible conference where the teams are ALL cupcakes!)At least Alabama and Florida play the #1 / #2 team to get to the BCS Championship game – Texas plays Nebraska…another “Powerhouse”…

Washingon st.. 1-10.. only win against SMU, lost to Hawaii and Notre Dame in non confe games

Ariz State 4-7 .. lost to Georgia

Washing 3-7.. lost to LSU and Notre Dame

Your top Team (Oregon) lost to Boise State.. maybe WAC is better

    OSU lost to Cincy

    Stanford lost to Wake Forest

    Arizona lost to Iowa

Bucknut what is your point? So Oregon has a loss to a top 7 team as does Oregon St. Looks pretty good in my book.

You can play this game with any conference, I don’t understand what you’re trying to get at here.

    Slippy,

The major reason that Boise State is ranked so high is that they beat Oregon. Then it’s circular reasoning to say that Oregon deserves to be ranked high because they only lost to Boise and don’t forget Stanford. You need also to look at Oregon’s two other OOC games: a squeaker over Purdue and a one touchdown win over non BCS Utah. That’s a solid win and a sketchy win, but not sure it suggests top 10.

Oregon State’s only OOC loss is to a good team (Cincinnati), but don’t forget about their 2 point victory over UNLV.

Not saying that Oregon or Oregon State are bad teams, but that you need to look at their other games as well.
