“I listed Mark Ingram first, but it’s really Ingram IA and Gerhart IB. I think they’re that close. If Ingram falters at all in the final two games I’d have no issue moving Gerhart ahead. But I remain very impressed with Ingram. He hasn’t padded his stats against inferior opponents. His fewest carries have come in lopsided wins over North Texas, Florida International, Arkansas and Chattanooga, and he’s produced against good defenses. Further, he does it with defenses geared to stop him. Seriously, defenses aren’t too concerned with QB Greg McElroy consistently beating them with the pass. So, stop Ingram and stop Alabama. But Ingram hasn’t been stopped yet. Also, McCoy has been amazing the last five weeks, but does that erase his struggles early in the season? Maybe it does. But he needs to finish with two more strong games to have a chance, I think.” — a Heisman voter.

Produced against good defenses? The best running D he’s faced all year was Mississippi, and they’re ranked #39. As far as the others go…

    #51 Virginia Tech
    #117 FIU
    #104 North Texas
    #68 Arkansas
    #98 Kentucky
    #63 South Carolina
    #60 Tennessee
    #48 LSU
    #69 Mississippi St.

Yeah, those are tough running D’s. Even Auburn clocks in at #88. But he’ll get his shot – Florida is ranked #7 in run D. If he can produce against them, I’ll be impressed. If not, mediocre stats against mediocre D’s do not a Heisman-winner make.

Yea, but their defenses are that bad because they’re playing in such a tough SEC conference with the greatest offenses, and the offenses don’t play well because of the great defenses, wait I mean…everything the SEC does is right, wait, I mean…Tebow is God. Oh okay, that explains it.

How can you not realize that mocking Tebow for the adulation he recieves is just as tiresome as the fawning itself? You come across as equally silly (or bitter) as the the announcer that proclaimed that “spending 5 minutes with Tebow makes you a better person.”

I’m a Gator fan and even I know those stats and rankings on total offense and total defense or run defense or pass defense or run offense, etc. are not nearly as important as people make them out to be and they are highly influenced by who a team plays. For our SEC critic above, what happened when Oklahoma played UF last year. The most or one of the most prolific offenses in CFB history (at least statistically) was held to 14 points. Now, some of that was getting a couple of great plays at key times, which is partially skill and partially luck. Nevertheless, it illustrates the point that statistics of that nature are overrated, and actually in that case the statistics told us two things: OU had a good offense, and the BIG 12 defenses weren’t stout last year.
