Picking This Week’s Games

Time for another round of picking games against the spread.  I went 4-6 last week and am now 45-52-3 on the season.  I’d say it’s about time I hit the comeback trail.  All spreads courtesy of DocSports.

Pitt (-6.5) at UConn — The Panthers are starting to play like the team they were supposed to be when the season started.  The Huskies are one-dimensional and Pitt should take advantage of that.

Pitt 27, UConn 14

UAB (-2) vs. East Carolina — The Pirates have one of the worst defenses in college football and are fresh off giving up 76 points to Navy.  UAB has been struggling on offense this year, but the Blazers will put it all together for the home win.

UAB 42, East Carolina 35

Michigan at Purdue (61.5 over) — I don’t think the Wolverines will put up 67 points, but I do think they’ll score a ton and give up their usual points on defense.  Michigan wins in another offensive shootout and, of course, Denard Robinon will produce lots of yards before getting hurt.

Michigan 48, Purdue 28

Illinois (53 over) vs. Minnesota — I think both teams should get their share of points, with Illinois getting the route behind a big game from Mike LeShoure.

Illinois 49, Minnesota 24

Arkansas (-29) vs. UTEP — The Razorbacks are really starting to click on offense.  UTEP has a decent defense but hasn’t seen an offense of this caliber yet this season.  Mallett goes off and the Hogs roll.

Arkansas 55, UTEP 20

Oregon (-20) at Cal — Even though Cal’s defense is the highest-rated in the Pac-10, I don’t think it matches up very well with the Ducks.  The Bears have trouble playing in space and defending misdirection.  Oregon starts slow again but cruises to the cover behind LaMichael James.

Oregon 45, Cal 13

Arizona (-4) vs. USC — Inconsistency and sloppy play will do in the Trojans against the Wildcats.  Juron Criner should have an easy time with the USC secondary.

Arizona 34, USC 24

Auburn vs. Georgia (65.5 over) — This one should be a fun one to watch, with points flying all over the place, which is why I like the over.  Aaron Murray will keep it interesting for a while, but Cam Newton will help the Tigers pull away.

Auburn 44, Georgia 35

Utah (-6) at Notre Dame — The Utes will turn it around following the stinging loss to TCU.  For the Irish, this matchup couldn’t come at a worse time.  Another bad loss at South Bend.

Utah 38, Notre Dame 10

Iowa State (-2.5) at Colorado — You always wonder how a team will react after its coach is fired.  Sometimes there is a rallying effect.  In this case, I don’t think it matters.  I believe Iowa State is just better and will get the cover.

Iowa State 31, Colorado 24

With Criner, Foles and Grigsby banged up, I like USC’s chances. I have been very surprised with the lack of production of UofA’s defense….I think USC can score some points. We shall see.
