The Candidates with the Heisman on Heisman Eve

Here’s fresh video of the four Heisman finalists posing with the Heisman Trophy.  A funny moment comes when the photogs asked the candidates to look down at the Heisman and Cam Newton, who was standing directly behind it, drops his head straight down, with chin to chest, to look.

He knows it will soon be his…

Top 25 Heisman Winners of the Past 25 Years

Stew Mandel has this story out where he ranks the top 25 Heisman winners of the past 25 years.

I don’t really have any quibbles with how this list is ranked.  The only major beef might be who is actually the No. 1 guy–Barry Sanders or Cam Newton–but either guy would qualify in my book.

SI also has a cool photo slide show here of failed attempts to repeat as Heisman winner.

Status of Live Streaming

They say that nothing ever goes according to plan in war time.  And at times my trip to New York has been the equivalent of traversing a techonological mine field.

Yesterday’s video uploading issues were hopefully to be resolved today thanks to an opportunity to live stream the candidates at their pre-ceremony press conferences.  Only problem was that the set up for the presser was changed from how it was last year and whereas last year we had 30 minutes with each candidate, this year we had 15 minutes combined for all three!

Needless to say, we weren’t able to get an adequate set up in time to live stream the candidates as promised, but we were able to talk to some Heisman voters, namely Dick Weiss of the Daily News and Stew Mandel and B.J. Schecter of Sports Illustrated.  As you can tell, we had mixed results there, too.  Audio was very low and video quality ranged from very poor to decent.

We have two more opportunities to get it right: Tonight with a brief photo op at Rockefeller Center and tomorrow at the actual post-ceremony press conference itself.  We hope we can bring those to you without any more glitches!

Tonight’s photo-op will be streaming live at around 8 p.m. ET and tomorrow’s post-ceremony presser should hit a little after the cermony concludes, so please be sure to give it another gander.

Heisman Eve

It’s the day before the Heisman.  The candidates are in town and will be conducting a press conference beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

We’ll be live streaming the press conference beginning around 3:15 ET, which you’ll be able to watch by clicking on the screen on the top of the site.

Shortly after the press conference, we’ll trudge on over to the Sports Illustrated offices and check in with Stew Mandel and B.J. Schecter, Heisman voters both.

Later on, at around 8:15 p.m. ET, we’ll join the candidates at Rockefeller Center for a photo op.

In the meantime, here is the latest Heisman news:

Technical Difficulties

My video endeavors are suffering some technical problems.  I’ll hopefully have them resolved tomorrow and have some of the video I shot today up on the site.  Thanks for your patience.
