Super Winners, Super Losers

A little bit of Super Bowl Heisman Trivia for you on a Wednesday:

Did you know only two Heisman winners have won more than one Super Bowl?

There’s Jim Plunkett (Heisman ’70), who led the Raiders to wins in the ’81 and ’84 Super Bowls.

Then there’s Roger Staubach, who captured the Heisman for the Naval Academy in 1964 before winning world titles as a member of the Dallas Cowboys in 1971-72 and 1977-78.

The only Heisman winner to lose more than one Super Bowl?

That’s also Staubach, who was on the Cowboy team that lost to the Colts in the ’71 Super Bowl and to the Steelers in the ’76 and 79′ extravaganzas.

Staubach’s five Super Bowls are more than any other Heisman winner.

Only two other Heisman winners besides Staubach and Plunkett have been on the roster of more than one Super Bowl-appearing team:  Mike Garrett (Kansas City in ’67 and ’70) and Charles Woodson (for Oakland in ’03 and for Green Bay in ’11).

The all-time record for Heisman winners in Super Bowls?  11-12.
