Northwestern has bought a billboard on behalf of the Dan Persa For Heisman Campaign that was launched this past week.
Chicago commuters will be able to see the ad next week on a Kennedy Expressway billboard at Kimball Avenue. There will also be a billboard in Bristol, Conn., home of ESPN.
Persa was named first team All-Big-Ten last year despite missing his final three games. He completed 73.5 percent of his passes for 2,581 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 519 yards and nine scores.
From Teddy Greenstein’s story:
NU officials chose the theme “Persa Strong” after ESPN.com’s Bruce Feldman named Persa the 10th-strongest player — and strongest quarterback – in the nation. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Persa can bench-press 360 pounds and squat 520.
Persa has not seen the billboards but said, “Anything that can get more attention for our team around the country is cool.”
NU officials also will send 7-pound purple dumbbells to 80 media members to help Persa’s cause. That’s a bit of Heisman swag I’d like to see up close.
It will easily set the record for heaviest Heisman promotion, that’s for sure.

I really like Persa. He’s got a huge hill to climb in this race though. I know NW hasn’t been a football joke for almost a generation now, but are voter’s ready for a NW Heisman winner?
I don’t think they are.
I think they are ready and I hope Persa gets it – big-time.
Pretty much says it all right here.
