I was asked recently who the five finalists will be at this year’s Heisman ceremony.
The assumption is that there are always five finalists when, in reality, that is rarely the case.
Here are the number of Heisman finalists each year for the last 20 years. As you can see, it is more common to have four, or even three, finalists at the ceremony:

I think there is a very good chance there will only be three finalists in New York this year, with four being an outside possibility and five being highly unlikely.
