With the votes in and the ceremony approaching, here are a few more tidbits about this year’s race:
– If Andrew Luck finishes as the runner up, he’ll be the fourth two-time runner up in Heisman history, joining Glenn Davis (Army, ’44-’45), Charlie Justice (North Carolina ’48-’49) and Darren McFadden (Arkansas ’06-’07).
– If Luck places second, Stanford will become the first school with three-straight Heisman runner ups.
– Montee Ball is Wisconsin’s first finalist since Ron Dayne won the Heisman in 1999 and third overall. Other Wisconsin top 10 finishers include Pat Richter (6th) and Ron VanderKelen (9th) in 1962, Alan Ameche (winner in 1954, 6th in 1953), Dave Schreiner (10th in 1942) and Howard Weiss (6th in 1938).
– Trent Richardson is Alabama’s 12th top 10 Heisman finisher and joins Lee Roy Jordan (’62), David Palmer (’93) and Mark Ingram (’09) as finalists.
– Heisman-winning jersey numbers and this year’s finalists:
Robert Griffin III shares the No. 10 with Troy Smith.
Andrew Luck shares the No. 12 with Charles White and Roger Staubach.
Trent Richardson shares the No. 3 with Carson Palmer
Montee Ball would be the first No. 28 to win the Heisman.
Tyrann Mathieu shares the No. 7 with Eric Crouch and John Huarte
– If Griffin III wins, it’ll be the fifth Heisman for the Big 12 since it became a conference in 1996. It’ll also give the Big 12 the most Heismans in the BCS era.
– Mathieu is the 21st pure defensive player to finish in the top five of the Heisman vote and the first defensive back since Georgia’s Terry Hoage in 1983.
