Who is going to New York?

We’re almost halfway through the season and, while there’s a clear frontrunner for the Heisman in Geno Smith, it’s not so clear who’s going to be joining him as finalists in New York.

If I were a betting man, I’d wager that Braxton Miller and Collin Klein make it. Miller is setting himself up to be next season’s Heisman frontrunner. And if Ohio State goes undefeated, he’s going to pick up a lot of support. I can’t picture Klein falling off so much that he doesn’t at least stay in the conversation, so let’s put him there, too. Unless this is one of those seasons with only three Heisman finalists — which often happens in a landslide scenario — we are looking at the possibility of one or maybe two more players who could make it to the ceremony.

There’s a large pool of players jockeying to squeeze in there. I think De’Anthony Thomas, Manti Te’o, David Ash, AJ McCarron, Johnny Manziel, Matt Barkley and Mike Gillislee are the best bets to fill out those final one or two spots, if necessary.
