Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel held off a surging Marcus Mariota of Oregon to once again lead the HeismanPundit Heisman Straw Poll.

The defending Heisman winner totaled 19 points and five first-place votes, barely edging out Mariota, who had 18 points and three first-place votes. Last week, Manziel beat out Mariota by four points.

Teddy Bridgewater of Louisville was third with nine points and one first-place vote. AJ McCarron of Alabama picked up the other first-place vote to finish fourth.

Five players tied for fifth, reflecting the potentially wide-open nature of the race after four weeks of play.

Now in its eighth season, the HeismanPundit.com Heisman Straw Poll is the college football world’s most trusted gauge of Heisman voter sentiment. It has been the most accurate Heisman poll in the country during the past seven seasons, with the final 2012 poll correctly picking the top five finishers and the final 2011 poll picking the top seven. This year’s poll is made up of 10 anonymous Heisman voters from across the country. Each week during the season they will pick three players. Tabulations for the preseason poll are tabulated like a real Heisman ballot, with three points awarded for a first-place vote, two points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.

Each week’s poll is released on Tuesdays throughout the season at HeismanPundit.com.

Where is Aaron Murray? He is the best, TRUE QB in College FB. Georgia is 4-2 in their last 6 games versus top 15 teams! He has had 3 very good seasons in a row. He has set several SEC and Georgia Team Records. In my opinion, he is the GREATEST QB in Georgia History, and they have had a lot of good QBs! Mike Bobo, Matt Stafford, Eric Zeier, David Greene. GA is a Legit National Champ Team!
