The polls are out . Not many surprises. Here’s my list of the top 10 teams heading into the season:
1. Oklahoma– The Sooners feature the nation’s pass efficiency leader, an excellent group of skill players, the best offensive line in the country and two elite interior defensive tackles. To me, that’s a good formula for a No. 1 team.
2. Florida– The Gators should have the best offense in the country. If the defense improves–and I think it will–who’s going to beat them?
3. Ohio State– This is Jim Tressel’s best team yet on paper. If the Buckeyes get by USC early, they should run the table.
4. Georgia– The best team in the country at the end of last season. If Matt Stafford puts it all together, it could be the best at the end of this season, too.
5. Missouri– While Tim Tebow may be the best player in the country, Chase Daniel isn’t far behind. This is an explosive team that has a lot of confidence. The schedule is favorable, as well.
6. Clemson– Are the Tigers finally for real? Talent abounds at all the key spots, but the offensive line is a question mark. Tommy Bowden will have to really muck things up for this team not to win the ACC.
7. West Virginia– I think Bill Stewart can keep it going. Doesn’t hurt to have Pat White and Noel Devine to fall back on. They could be the most exciting duo in the country.
8. LSU– If the Tigers can find a quarterback, they should be pretty good. Keiland Williams should emerge as one of the top backs in the country.
9. USC– Supremely talented team with a bunch of question marks at quarterback, receiver and offensive line. Will get better as season goes on, but early games could be trouble.
10. Oregon– OC Chip Kelly should be able to plug ‘n play enough guys on offense to make up for the loss of Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart. The secondary is one of the best in the country.
On the cusp: Auburn, Brigham Young, Texas Tech, Alabama, Texas.

I think the top 4 are pretty interchangable at this point. I’d say the Buckeyes are the best on paper, but they have those last two NC games to live down. Georgia scares me a bit. They really haven’t impressed me much the last two years but then the seem to “get it” at the end of last year and looked better than anyone. But should the last 7 or so games outweigh the last 2 or so seasons? I don’t know.
I think you should flip Auburn and WV. Unlike you I am more skeptical of Stewart. WV is an injury or two away from being a huge disappointment.
And USC is 5 or so spots too low. Questions or not, at the end of the year they will be playing NC caliber ball.
Interesting picks, gotta respect you for being bold. If that Oregon pick turns out, I’ll be very pleasantly surprised.
Wow, Oregon…does Oregon have the kind of QB to successfully run that spread offense?
What about Arizona State?
i agree with the top 3 but USC in my opinion is overrated this year look for them to loose at least 5 games. Oklahoma is the def #1 in my mind
their defensive play in thier scrimmages reminds me of the 00-04 defenses and the offense has the best o-line in the country a great Qb and a extremley good runningback in demarco murray not to mention the WR corps which is filled with talent
Illinois was over rated last year. USC proved that the #2 in the big whatever conference had no place in the Rose Bowl..smashed the crap out of them!
Hawaii doesnt make anyone great…..Yet everyone has built Georgia into some monster just because they smashed Hawaii? Need I remind everyone of the last time Hawaii was ranked very high? Hint: USC played them that very week on the Island and smashed the crap out of them!
I believe that Oaklahoma did have another prolific passer not too long ago. Yes, do you remember that qb? Hint: He was the one that USC smashed the crap out of in the NC game!
Oregon the ugly ducklings? Dennis Dixon is not there anymore. Sorry, but your stupid for thinking that you can “plug and play.” Dixon was a freak that Oregon will not see again for some time. The ducks will be lucky to come in 4th in the PAC 10 this year.
Florida! I know they have speed, but are you a retard? They got there buts handed to them by a Michigan team that was beat left and right last year…APP State, Oregon, need I go on? Florida is not number 2.
Ohio State Bills? Stop whatever drugs you are taking. Seriously, where should I start with the OSU Bills? They are toooo slow. They can’t play big right now, and may need to consider changing some people in the office.
This ranking stinks.
